End: 20/09/2008 - 2:00pm

The week long sale will have thousands of plants on offer at 30-50% off the normal price. There'll be free plants for purchases over $50 and freebies that need a bit of extra care for those with a bit of a green thumb.

TIN grows local native plants, the kind that grow out in the bush, the tough types that don't need too much extra attention, the luscious types that the local wildlife like to dip their beaks and bits into for a healthy meal.

Start: 9:00 am
End: 12:30 pm
Burwood Beach is the coastal part of Glenrock State Consevation Area. In the past, this bit of beach had its foredunes covered by Bitou Bush. Several years of efforts by coastal volunteers are making a difference to the varierty of coastal plants that now call Burwood Beach their home. This regeneration project still has a long way to go and you can be a part of its transformation. If you’re interested make sure you've been in for an induction and book a seat on the bus. Volunteer inductions happen every Wednesday at 10am to give you an overview of the organisation and the OH & S issues at TIN.

Merewether Beach is a well loved stretch of the local coastline. Once upon a time there was only Bitou Bush on the dunes but now thanks to the efforts of several local coastcare groups native vegetation is once again holding the dunes in place. The main task we tackle is the ongoing replacement of local weeds such as Gazania and Bitou Bush with local coastal native plants.

Our long term aim is to improve the local environment of the Lower Hunter region through bush regeneration and the protection and propagation of local native plants.

TIN will be lending several hands to support one of Newcastle's longest running landcare groups.  The Claremont Reserve Bushcare group have been looking after this pretty patch of near-perfect bushland since the mid 1990s.

TIN volunteers will be lending a hand to do a bit of weeding in the Spotted Gum Ironbark Open forest. This is a very common vegetation community around the slopes of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie so it's also a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about the local bushland, the weeds that sneak in and how to remove them with minimal disturbance.

Boosting the biodiversity along the Bathers Way is a great way to learn about bush regeneration and what it takes to look after our local environment. Trees In Newcastle has received a grant from the Australian Government's Envirofund to continue the long term rehabilitation our our spectacular coastal strip. You're most welcome to come along and learn and lend a hand.
