TIN
has undertaken bush regeneration works at Belmont Lagoon Wetland covering an
area over 4 hectares. This involved works planning, primary weeding, planting,
documentation, organising community participation days. TIN was contracted through the Office of Lake Macquarie and Catchment Coordinator to undertake this project and support the Belmont Lagoon Landcare group.
Ecotypes covered: Sydney Estuary Swamp Forest Complex (EEC), Swamp Mahogany - Paperbark Swamp Forest (EEC).
Summary of Works: Preparation of works schedule to consider displacement of native fauna habitat and food source due to the high density of weed biomass removed. Primary and secondary weed removal, assisted/trained local Landcare group and community, supplied and planted over 6000 local provenance tubestock, conducted trials for Madeira Vine removal and translocation of Blechnum camfieldii.
Targeted Weeds: Lantana (Lantana camara), Morning Glory (Ipomea cairicaI), Turkey Rhubarb (Acetosa sagittata), Madeira Vine (Anredera cordifolia), Pampas Grass (Cortaderia spp), Crofton Weed (Ageratina adenophora), Bitou Bush (Chrysanthemoides monilifera), Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum camphora), Coral tree (Erythrina x sykesii) and Ochna (Ochna serrulata).
