Trees In Newcastle is celebrating 19 years of regenerating the region next week with a biodiverse birthday bush-busting sale at the 252 Parry St Nursery, Tuesday 9th -Saturday 13th September.
"We'll be
offering up an abundance of biodiverse beauties at almost giveaway prices to
encourage people to put a few local natives in their gardens." Nursery Manager
Barb Nanshe said
"Local
native plants are tough, they don't need too much extra attention or water,
they are also the kind of plants that the local wildlife likes to dip their
beaks into for a healthy meal."
"With the
local impacts of climate change a big unknown, having a large gene pool of
plants surviving in our area is one of the best ways to give the local plant
life the best chance it has of adapting to any changes".
Biodiversity
Month is all about appreciating the variety of life that holds
the key to our future. At TIN, by growing local native plants from seed
collected in the bushland of our region we are helping to keep the variety of local
plant life in our local area.
"Nineteen years ago
a small group of people got together under the common cause of ‘we
need more trees in Newcastle', today the catch cry is still the same and we
are proudly celebrating all that we have achieved" Manager Gordon Patrick said
"TIN has become so much more than a tree-planting group
over the years. We are a volunteer and education centre as well as a nursery
and bush regeneration provider"
"We have one of the most sought after bush regeneration
teams in the Lower Hunter, we grow over 200,000 local native plants from
locally collected seed annually, we have a full time volunteer program and we
run community and school education programs"
