Volunteer Engagement

Since its establishment, Trees in Newcastle has first and foremost been a community organisation. The contribution of volunteers is vital to TIN’s operations. TIN recognises and values the reciprocal nature of the relationship between the organisation and the individual and is committed to providing a volunteer program which both:

Supports TIN’s work; and

• Meets the expectations and needs of individual volunteers.

We engage volunteers in every aspect of our operation including:

  • Nursery tasks - sowing, propagation, weeding, potting up.
  • Coastal regeneration projects from Burwood Beach to King Edward park.
  • Weekly seed collecting and seed processing;
  • School and community planting projects.
  • General maintenance and small scale construction projects.
  • Administrative assistance tasks and honorary committee positions.

We offer:

  • Meaningful and friendly volunteer placements for those with environmental values
  • Professional development for environmental science and TAFE students
  • Mutual Obligation placements
  • Return to work trials
  • Rehabilitation and disability work placements
