Our Outcomes
Since its establishment in 1989, Trees in Newcastle has rehabilitated and regenerated a diverse range of local degraded ecosystems including stream banks, riparian corridors, wetlands, remnant rainforests, coastal areas, dune systems and a variety of forest plant communities.
In 2010 our bush regeneration team planted over 26,000 native plants across our region.
Because of our work:
-
Dune systems from the Central Coast to Port Stephens have had mountains of Bitou Bush banished, remnant dunes stabilised and biodiversity enhanced.
-
Rainforest remnants across the region have been rehabilitated.
-
Important wetland systems have been restored.
-
Critically endangered ecological communities have been regenerated and threatened species restored.
-
Wildlife corridors have been linked to mitigate the impacts of climate change on fauna and flora.
