Lower Hunter Community Seedbank
The Lower Hunter Community Seedbank aims to protect the long term survival of native plants in the Lower Hunter Region.
The regional seedbank is our local plants’ insurance policy. It helps guarantee the future survival of regional biodiversity by collecting and storing local native seeds.
TIN has seed collection kits available for loan to community groups and members as well as seed processing equipment and climatically controlled storage facilities. We have information about all aspects of seed identifucation, collection, treatment and storage in Resource Library
TIN houses the Lower Hunter Community Seedbank and encourages community participation in seed banking by:
-
Providing facilities for the collection, sorting and storage of local indigenous seed.
-
Providing community members with education and training on ‘best practice’ methods used in the collection, sorting and storage of local indigenous seed.
-
Encouraging the community to use local indigenous seed and plants in their revegetation activities.
-
Promoting the ‘Florabank’ guidelines to the community for the collection, sorting and storage of local indigenous seed.
-
Maintaining an up-to-date database of all local seed collection records for the community.
